I was asked by a good customer to make a Mini version of the Ti Shard. He wanted it to be a full grip knife but as small as possible and adapted to his hand size.
The Original Shard is 280 mm long:
It had to be reduced to 200 mm OAL, and I also decided to make it slightly narrower :
The final result is an ultralight blade weighting less than 30 grams. With a beautifully executed multi-grind (A.K.A. compound grind) and a well thought-out handle the Bladetricks Mini Shard is a compact EDC urban everyday carry backup neck knife with an excellent tip and a long slicing cutting edge.
Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V titanium offers an excellent combination of lightness, high strength and toughness, while the carburized (tungsten carbide, 71 HRC) cutting edge provides an increased sharpness / edge retention.
