H13 tool steel has been chosen for this totally hand made custom ice pick. Thanks to its excellent combination of high toughness and fatigue resistance it is the best steel for this application.
The handle was hand carved in a single piece of seasoned birch wood.
Birch is reserved for butcher blocks, tool handles and specialty furniture. Birch hardwood is also often used for braces or structural members when absolute rock-solid strength is required, such as in hydraulic presses.
